Polestar is Volvo Car Group's performance road car brand. It was founded by Polestar Racing, today known as Cyan Racing. Polestar was born from the desire of Cyan Racing's race engineers to explore how the technology behind the multiple title-winning success in racing could be applied to the performance of Volvo street cars, on all roads and conditions in everyday life.

Today, Polestar builds the S60 and V60 Polestar, 367 hp performance road cars with over 250 developments over and above the standard Volvo car models. The Polestar 2 has been presented to the world. We didn’t want to fly people in from all over the world to show them our electric car. Creating emissions in order to show people our zero-emission car made no sense to us. Those types of presentations are an anachronism in today’s car industry anyway, even more so for a digital brand like Polestar.
So we did it online. We delivered our message in a clean, undiluted way, parting with convention in favour of a better solution. In dispensing with the logistics of flying people in, we were free to focus on what matters most: the Polestar 2. An avant-garde, all-electric statement of purpose, the Polestar 2 is the next step in our journey

Performance is an integral part of the Polestar philosophy, and the Polestar 2 doesn’t deviate from this in the slightest. With a 78 kWh battery (72 kWh in China), EFAD + ERAD motors each offering 150 kW, 330 Nm of torque, and a targeted range of 500 km (WLTP/NEDC)/275 miles (EPA), the Polestar 2 packs a powerful electric punch.
Optimised electric drivetrain
300 kW of power, 660 Nm of torque and a targeted range of 500 km/275 miles. 0 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds. All-wheel drive. The Polestar 2 has an all-electric drivetrain with the option of a performance package featuring Brembo brakes and adjustable Öhlins dampers. With front and rear DC to AC inverters, an 11kW on-board charger, a 27-module lithium-ion battery with 78 kWh capacity (72 kWh in China) , and EFAD + ERAD permanent magnetic motors, the Polestar 2 is a paragon of electric performance and efficiency.

Braking news
The electric motors in the Polestar 2 use the car’s momentum to recover energy during braking (regenerative or “regen” braking) which would otherwise be converted to heat and wasted. This means that easing up on the accelerator will cause the car to slow down. The Polestar 2 also makes use of blended braking, combining the regen braking with the regular brakes in order to regenerate the maximum amount of electricity. This enables one-pedal driving with different regen braking levels, which can be customised in the car or via the Polestar Connect app. More efficient, more environmentally friendly, more elegant, more simple.
A multi-faceted battery
This is not a battery with a chassis on top. This is one system operating in harmony. This symbiosis is achieved, in part, because the battery has a number of features that make it more than just a power source. The battery’s inherent rigidity adds torsional stiffness to the car, improving handling and responsiveness. Due to its size, it reduces noise, vibration and harshness (or NVH) by 3.7 dB, making the Polestar 2 an exceptionally quiet electric car. The interior is like a library, if libraries had 300 kW.

Designed for purpose, performance and progression
The Polestar 2 is an avant-garde 5-door fastback, packed with distinctive design flourishes. A hollow, hexagonal gear shifter with an illuminated Polestar in the centre. Rear lights which stretch the entire width of the car. These details don’t just give the Polestar 2 its unique look. They’re also the intersecting points of form and function, establishing the Polestar 2 as a versatile, modern, progressive electric car.
Details that deliver
The fastback body shape means a lower drag coefficient, leading to enhanced aerodynamic performance. The side mirrors are frameless, which maximises the field of vision available to the driver. Adaptive rear lighting, in which the 288 LED rear lamp shines more intensely with stronger braking, illuminate differently depending on the weather, and provide a visual signal as to which direction the car is reversing. All of these innovations create a unique, responsive experience, for those inside the car and outside.
Welcome and farewell sequences
These are patterns which the front and rear lights display when one approaches or walks away from the vehicle. A futuristic detail which adds a bit of additional flavour to the Polestar 2. There’s also the Polestar logo which is projected onto the panoramic glass roof from the overhead panel inside, providing potent symbolism while also adding to the ambience of the car. The panoramic roof itself is made from laminated glass, which remains intact even if it’s broken or shattered. The roof lamination also reduces solar radiation within the car, to the point where sunshades aren’t necessary.
The next step in sound
Polestar has partnered with audio experts Harman Kardon to fit the Polestar 2 with a fully integrated sound system to create an immersive, detailed audio environment. Why Harman Kardon? Besides their obvious expertise, they’re a kindred spirit to Polestar, delivering innovations which set them apart. One example is their Dirac Unison© tuning software, which ensures that everyone in the car enjoys the same powerful, immersive listening experience regardless of where they’re sitting, while also providing a tight, unified bass sound. An innovative detail, nestled in a car full of them.
Storage solutions
The tailgate of the Polestar 2 has its hinge at the top of the window, granting unrestricted access to the entirety of the trunk. With multiple options available for opening and closing (via the Polestar Connect app, a button on the dash, a button on the lid itself, and a sensor under the bumper), there are no drawbacks to a larger-than-usual tailgate. Just the benefits of 404-litre (VDA) luggage capacity, further augmented by the 34-litre front storage compartment.
No bad combinations
The material and colour options for the Polestar 2 were chosen with care. A precise range of customisations ensures that the Polestar 2 can be configured to suit your preferences, and everything compliments everything else. Standard vegan interior materials, black ash and reconstructed wood decor elements, textile surface panels and optional Nappa leather are just some of the details which make the Polestar 2 interior both timeless and unique.

With phone-as-key, intelligent seat sensors, and responsive accessibility, the Polestar 2 adjusts to the driver, as opposed to the other way around. No offense to your former cars, but the Polestar 2 is the car that really understands you.
Subscription model
A car doesn’t have to be a colossal, one-time expense on which you lose money the second you begin to drive. Polestar feels that car ownership should more closely resemble phone ownership: an all-inclusive monthly fee, with the option to return or upgrade at the end of your term, without any hassle or headache. Polestar’s future subscription model makes this a reality, with a monthly price including a host of services which allow you to focus on the joys of having a Polestar.
Reactive readiness
The Polestar 2 begins to prepare itself even as the driver approaches. Once the presence of the digital key is detected, the display shows pertinent information: battery status, range, and the time remaining to a full charge. No time wasted, no fiddling with menus; the Polestar 2 tells you what you need to know, before you even open the door.
Welcome back to the driver’s seat
The phone is the authentication device. Thanks to the Polestar Connect app, it also serves to remind the Polestar 2 just how you like it. Seat position, mirror settings, and more are automatically returned to your exact specifications. The Polestar 2 fits the driver like a glove. A glove with 660Nm of torque.
Owner-as-key
There is no start button in the Polestar 2. The Polestar 2 powers up as soon as the driver is seated, the intelligent sensors in the seat signalling to the car’s systems that it’s go time. No more patting yourself down for your keys, no more flicking switches, no more searching for buttons. Up until now, you’ve just sat on it. Now it starts your car.
Wireless phone charging
Polestar removes yet another in-car awkward fumble, offering wireless inductive phone charging without any extra equipment. Simply place the phone in the forward part of the tunnel console and drive on. Upon arrival, your phone will be as charged up and ready for action as you are.

Protection and prevention
Nothing escapes the attention of the Polestar 2. It has enormous capacity to take in information about its surroundings and the trajectories of vehicles around it. Known as IntelliSafe™ in the Volvo world, Polestar has put this technology to good use, using a suite of preventative and protective technologies designed to keep occupants safe. It also allows for those inside the Polestar 2 to be more reactive and aware of the world outside the car than ever before. And it does so automatically; there’s no need to activate anything. It’s always there and always on duty, the safest and most alert co-pilot anywhere.
Collision mitigation
A front radar unit, a windshield-mounted camera, and two rear radar units mean that the Polestar 2 is very spatially aware, and takes preventative measures whenever something encroaches on its personal space. Everything from pedestrians to the majestic moose can be noticed by the Polestar 2, which then warns the driver (via a brake pulse, audio warning signal, and visual warning signal in the driver display) and then brakes automatically if needed. Automatic pre-braking, steering support, and incrementally-tightening seatbelts also come into play, maximising safety for the occupants.
Charging
Both AC and DC charging work with the Polestar 2, meaning that a charge is always within reach. Use AC when at home or at work, use DC when road tripping or otherwise out and about when time is of the essence (up to 150 kW). Regulate the charge current, the duration, the maximum charge level, and much more in the car or via the Polestar Connect app. A 7-metre AC charging cord (for normal outlets) comes standard, with the option to buy a 4.5-metre AC cord (for wallboxes/public locations) for faster charging.
